THE KIP (KIGALI INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT) IS SET TO EXPAND ROADS TO A NEW AND MODERN LEVEL

The project was completed and implemented in 2020, playing a major role in reducing traffic congestion, improving the movement of residents, and promoting business activities and investment in Rwanda’s capital city.

KIP is one of the key projects that has helped Kigali continue to grow as a modern and rapidly developing city in Africa.Reports indicate that this project is expected to be completed in the 2030/2031 fiscal year, with an estimated total cost of US$404 million. It is considered a major project for the city’s development, as it will help reduce traffic congestion and increase trade connections between different parts of Kigali.

So far, about RWF 299 billion has already been spent, while an additional RWF 15 billion has been allocated in the current fiscal year to continue the remaining works. This demonstrates the commitment of the government and its development partners to support the successful completion of the project.

However, some challenges still remain, including a funding gap of around US$150 million. In addition, the City of Kigali is expected to contribute RWF 88 billion to ensure that all planned activities are completed as required.

Analysts say that despite these challenges, the Kigali Infrastructure Project (KIP) will play a significant role in transforming the image of Kigali, making it a stronger investment hub and improving the quality of life for residents. In particular, the new roads will help ease transportation, reduce travel time, and boost business activities.

As Rwanda continues its journey toward sustainable development, projects like KIP reflect the country’s vision of promoting modern infrastructure that meets current needs and strengthens international competitiveness.
