On the shores of Lake Mugesera, in Zaza Sector, Ngoma District, a landmark hospitality project is nearing completion. Lakeside Recreation Resort is set to become the first five-star hotel in Rwanda's Eastern Province. Developed by Mountain Ridge Estates, a company owned by Rwandan investors, the project is valued at approximately $5 million.
Construction began in 2022 on a 10-hectare plot. The resort boasts impressive facilities, including a large hall with an 800-person capacity, courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball, an artificial lake, and a mini-Olympic size swimming pool. The main building features two floors with 44 rooms, additional side accommodations, and a dedicated Presidential Suite.
The hotel is being developed in three phases. The first phase is expected to be completed by June 2026, allowing the hotel to open its doors to the public.
Nathalie Niyonagira, the Mayor of Ngoma District, highlighted that the project has already provided numerous jobs. She noted that the resort will significantly boost tourism through water sports and boat tours on Lake Mugesera. To support this investment, the local government is fast-tracking infrastructure, including improving access roads and ensuring stable water and electricity supply to the area.
